Happy Valentine's Day! What better way to celebrate today with a brand-spankin' shiny new post! Woop.
Sometimes I get tired of my own face plastered all over my blog, so I thought I'd switch it up a bit and invite my long-time friend Hoozel to be my victim for a fun little shoot based on SPICA's MV for, "Tonight"! I've been wanting to do makeup inspired by this particular MV for the
longest time. Not only is the song amazing and incredibly addictive, but the concept really caught my attention since it's something that hasn't really been done by other girl groups before.
And you all know how I feel about them concepts. Call the theme borderline hipster, but I don't care. You can't deny the prettiness in this video. The whole feel-good
vibe, the muted colors and that barely there sun-kissed type of makeup
using different hues of peachy colors. It's a huge contrast from the boldness and darker themes I usually go for in terms of makeup in Kpop MVs,
so not only was it a challenge, but it was so much fun taking on such a
fresh concept while adding a bit of my own flair to it.
Check out the video below!
Obligatory supah AZN 'before' photo.
I was more than stoked to know that Hoozel was totally open to whatever creative direction I was going for. I literally showed up at her house with my kit in one hand and a flower crown in the other with an idea of drawing random tattoos all over her and not really knowing how she'd react about the whole thing. But she was so down!
Let me just say that Hoozel does not need to put on any makeup whatsoever. She's one of those lucky people who can wake up, wash their face, and run out the door without having to worry about putting on a pair of eyebrows, or scaring the neighbor's dog away. She is completely and frustratingly flawless on her own (I'm jelly!) and I was trying to figure out how I can work with such a face and not screw up! Luckily the end result was way better than I expected and she just looked drop-dead gorgeous. I seriously had to pat myself on the back for this one. Good job, DC.
It was such a huge transformation that we named her, "Charlotte". Hahahahaha.
Since we were going for something more natural and more soft, part of
the makeup process that sort of put a test in my abilities was avoiding
the winged-liner. For those who don't know, I LOVE A WINGED LINER.
Whether short or long enough to initiate lift-off on it's own, the
winged-liner is a must in my book. It sort of is a default thing for me
and I subconsciously do it without thinking because I'm just so used to
it. But challenge conquered!
Everything went smoothly and I'm so grateful that Hooze was so patient with me. Despite it taking hours, it was so much fun working with her and we accumulated a ton of good shots to choose from. Not mention, the girl is a total natural. Werk!
Tell me this doesn't look like a teaser photo for an upcoming girl group??
Like I said. Total. Natural.
She totally looked the part and she could definitely pull-off being another member of SPICA in the MV.

It was actually about time that I did
makeup on Hoozel since we've been forever planning on doing a
makeover/shoot together. The day finally came and it was so nice to have
spent the entire day just catching up and having a completely girls'
day in type of day. May I also mention that she's a licensed Esthetician
and offered to give me a facial in her clinic? Perks! Can't say no to
that, right? Being my first time getting a facial, I was a tad skeptical
and a bit paranoid, but I'm glad I went through with it because it was
one of the best experiences I've ever had and I don't regret having my
face all therapeutically mushed up into goo. Haha.
Hoozel,
if you're reading this, thank you! You really took care of me well and a
week later, my face still feels like a baby's butt!♥
So
for those of you who want to give your skin a real treat and indulge in
a super relaxing facial, she is your gal. She definitely knows her
stuff! I took a bunch of notes and I've learned a lot from her. I've
also helped convince her to start up a blog and as soon as she starts shooting out posts like rapid-fire, I'll link you guys!
Bonus insta-photo: Look Ma, no eyebrows!
Hoozel and I have been friends since we were 11. We used to trick classmates into thinking we were cousins and for the longest time they would actually believe us. We'd drool over Justin Timberlake and his strikingly yellow ramen hair circa 1999, and give our crushes candy brand code-names. I used to visit her house everyday after school and we would read each others' middle school diaries under her dining room table and eat her grandpa's yummy corned beef over rice without a care in the world. Our only worry was whether or not we'd come home in time for TRL.
Now we're both well past our mid-twenties with real responsibilities and goals & dreams clearly more realistic than just marrying a member of NSYNC. There are times where you just need to stop, relax, play dress-up with a gal-pal, draw on a few fake tatts and get in touch with your inner foxy lady! Overall, it was just a great day reminiscing and laughing our butts off being kids again.
Here I am getting all nostalgic and misty-eyed! Haha. Hope you guys get a chance to do the same! Not necessarily with a flower crown and a photoshoot.
Fun bonus photo! It's one of our fave shots!
Peace + fluffy sweaters,
