{Looks} Japanese Gyaru-inspired~

Photobucket

Lots of attempted cuteness in today's blog post. So if you aren't into all that cloud9 fluffyness, avert eyes now~! (> 3<)o*:.~
This week has been such a downer that I needed a pick-me-up and decided, why not play around with makeup? That (obviously) brightens up my mood! So I opted for the long-awaited Gyaru-inspired look that I've longed to full-on try out. Basically a Gyaru is a Japanese term for fashion-forward girls with a doll-like appearance. There are tons of variations of Gyaru.
My first attempt on the Gyaru look was not too long ago, but it somehow ended turning up Visual Kei-ish, which I've done and experimented with many times in the past. But I think I nailed it this time. I'm pretty satisfied with the way it turned out!

I've always loved the whole Tsubasa Masuwaka look and how she doesn't go too overboard with her style and makeup. So I was stoked when not too long ago, she collaborated with Japanese cosmetic brand Koji and produced her own makeup line called, "Dolly Wink". It consists of a wide array of elaborate false eyelashes (DO WANT), eyeliners, and most recently, a line of eyeshadows. Today's look is based on Dolly Wink's No. 04 Colorful Pop in Green Pink eyeshadow palette shown below:

I unfortunately did not use this set nor do I own this set, but I did find really similar colors in my beloved 88 Palette. Baby never goes wrong, I swear. I can count on that palette for anything!

1.} Take a turquoise shadow and pat it over a primed lid, just very slightly overlapping the crease.

2.} Use a smaller e/s brush and swipe the outer corner of your lower lash line in a deep pink shadow.

3} Take a shimmery white shadow and pat that on your inner corner and blend with the turqoise shade on top and the deep pink on the bottom.

4.} Lastly, take a navy blue shadow and place that color right along your crease line to add depth and definition. Usually eyelid glue or eyelid tape is used to create a exaggerated crease (esp. for those who have monolids). Since I have no use for that, using the dark navy on an existing crease will create an illusion of a deeper set eye.

*I got this chart idea from Dolly Wink's step-by-step instructions which can be found in the packaging of each of their palettes. Thought it would be a fun change to what I normally do with tutorials. ^___^

Other products I used:
- Rimmel Fix and Perfect Primer in 001
- Rimmel Stay Matte foundation in True Ivory
- Rimmel Stay Matte powder in Sandstorm
- Red Cherry Lashes // and ones I cut up for bottom lashes.
- Revlon Colorstay liquid eyeliner
- Jane mineral blush
- NYX Round Lipstick in Fig
- NYX Mega Shine gloss in Beige

Lining the eyes and adding falsies, especially for Gyaru type looks are pretty tricky since they require techniques that are pretty out of the norm for some people. The main focus are the eyes, which have to look rather enormous. Circle lenses are definitely a big part in helping that happen. I didn't use any since I don't own any..but I will one day when I'm done being a chicken. You'd also have to use an eyeliner in a way that makes your eyes look somewhat droopy..? Also the lash placement is really what makes a HUGE difference in this particular look. As shown above, I don't know if you can see, but I used 4 different types of false lashes to achieve the illusion of a slightly larger eye. Focusing more on the outer corners for that dolly-like appearance. I seriously don't know how these girls do it everyday lol. I mean, I absolutely adoooorre Gyaru makeup, I adore it to bits. But I don't think I have the patience to put on a full face of Gyaru everyday haha. I can imagine the clean-up as well! Wow! But it was fun and I hope to do another Gyaru look in the near future! I already have some ideas floating in this here noggin o' mine. Keke~

I hope you guys enjoyed this look as much as I did! I know I went a bit overboard and went all "deco" with my photos. Haha. What's Gyaru without the Purikura? o(^ u~)o..:*
I also want to point out that I am not at all trying to be a Gyaru whatsoever, I know there are tons of girls who are dedicated to this look and probably could point out what I've done wrong or if I did mess up in any way. Lol. This is just an inspired look that I thought was just simply fun to do. Fun fun fun!

After having all that makeup on my face today, and as great as it is to play and experiment different looks, it always feels amazing to have it all off! So here I give you, my bare face. Something you all should feel really good in as well. You know, every once in a while. ;3
