{Tuesday Night Tunage} Joo Young

I've been in a Retro/Smooth R&B binge as of late and it has been taking over every part of my being. I kid you not, I've been craving more and more of this sound with a monstrous appetite. So far, my R&B playlist has got a bunch of great stuff from super talented groups and artists, but I find myself constantly replaying tracks from one artist in particular with a voice like pure honey.

Joo Young  is a rising twenty-two year old R&B vocalist stemming from S. Korea's underground scene. He's collaborated with quite an impressive list of artists such as Ra.D, Lyn and Eluphant to name a few. He debuted with his single 그대와 같아 (Same As You) in 2010 and has released his first mini album From Me To You back in late 2012 with 6 soulful tracks. His latest and more upbeat Popstar single was released in September of 2013 and has been one of my top played songs to blast in the car. That song is bumpin, foreal.

If you're not up and grooving as soon as you press play, there is something wrong with you, child.

I first stumbled upon Joo Young through his MV for "네게 난" from his From Me To You album and I occasionally found myself singing 'I don't wanna live without you, girl you're my love' out of nowhere. But it wasn't until his release of Popstar that I got really hooked and it made me curious about all of his other previous tracks. Then the rest was history. His 1st mini album is just one great listen all the way through. If you're looking for a breath of fresh air, a relaxing mini vacation, or looking to maybe mend your broken heart, seriously listen to his stuff, you won't regret it.

Joo Young is slowly becoming one of my favorite underground artists and he totally deserves way more recognition than he's already receiving. It's sort of hard to believe that he's this underrated, but if he keeps continuing on this path, I'm sure he'll be able to become a household name in no time. I love that his songs are really soulful, smooth and so uniquely sweet sounding that you just don't get tired of listening to him. And that voice, god, that voice. Pour me a cup of that to-go!

Other artists similar to Joo Young that you should also check out is CHEEZE (치즈), BrotherSu, and Ra.D if you haven't already.

Still not convinced? Let all this awesomeness do all the talking...or singing.

And as if he isn't amazing enough. He covers Passion's "Well Done".

Like buttah.

Follow him on Twitter & Instagram! Already beat ya to it. :)

Peace + sweet swoonage,
